Last week, through the miracle of AI, we looked into the revolution in Habsburg historiography in English, which has stripped away the old myths of the “prison of peoples”, revealing the benevolent entity that actually worked far better for the betterment of its peoples than anything we see to-day in Central Europe. We then saw how, after a decade or two, this realisation is being understood by historians working in the languages of the Austrian part of the Monarchy: German, Czech, Slovenian, and Italian. But now we shall deal with the rest of the country, and continue our tour eastwards! We shall begin with Austria’s unwilling partner – Hungary.
